If the US government can come up with hundreds of billions of dollars to fight this war in Iraq, why can't we come up with enough money to fix our own failing public schools and health care?

The problem is that similar to the war in Iraq, there is no "finish line" with respect to the public school system or health care.

Trillions of $$ are spent every year on education and health care but there will always be some people who have problems. We could triple the money spent in these areas and it wouldn't guarantee that every child will have a great education or every citizen would have adequate healthcare when they needed it.

By what standard do you say the education or healthcare system is "good enough" or "just right".

    • I don't necessarily mean that we should keep throwing money at the current system. That's what we're doing now and it's certainly not going to fix anything. I mean, why can't we throw a couple billion at analyzing the problems and coming up with some ways in which we can change and fix things.

    • You ask anyone in other countries like Canada and ask them about their healthcare and you have very few complaints... You ask just about anyone in the USA how healthcare is and most will complain about something... We shouldn't have to buy insurance for our health, it should be automatically covered but that would mean a perfect system and perfect systems don't make a lot of money for those who control it... Just like the whole HMO thing... Watch the vid on Nixon agreeing to that and it was all about business, not the quality of health... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    • Sorry to pop your balloon NeoPlasmaX but I'm from Canada and to be quite frank our health care system stinks.

The wait times are horrendous. To see a specialist sometimes takes 18 months!!! My belief is that the rich are going to go the US to get medical care if they need it to speed up the process and as Canadians we have to do something to keep those dollars in Canada to help our own health care system. However, no politician as the gonads to step up and do something about it.
