You're reading What do you think of George W. Bush?
Comments
"I was not pleased that Hamas has refused to announce its desire to destroy Israel." --George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., May 4, 2006 Yeah, he's brilliant.

And I don't think he's the lesser of any evil. I fear Christian Theocracy and extremism just as much as I fear Islamic Theocracy and extremism. Bush aligns himself with proponents of the former.
by AntigoneRising on October 16th, 2006
(v SB v) Ah. So you*d rather have atheistic theocracy and extremism? And we all trip up on words every now and then. Is it too much for you to understand that he*s human? Even I do that! It doesn*t mean a @%#$ thing!
by Rottweiler on October 17th, 2006
From equating atheism and theology to the cognitive distortion (either/or thinking), there are so many things with your last statement that I don't know where to begin.
by AntigoneRising on October 18th, 2006
(v AR) Face it. BY DEFINITION, atheism is a religion, and it actually takes away from one*s moral reasoning. And if you*re stuck on where to begin, the beginning is usually best.
by Rottweiler on October 19th, 2006
I'm really stuck on whether or not it is worth it. I know more moral Atheists than Theists. Your prejudice probably isn't worth arguing with. BTW, we were talking about theocracy, which you then brought up theology. Now you are bringing up relig

Wow, actually one intelligent answer here. How many of the "antis" do you think voted last election?
by Darryl61 on October 29th, 2006
Seems like some people take this very personally.
by ZerotheHero on October 31st, 2006
(v Zero) Yes, I take slander/libel and misrepresentation VERY seriously.

As do I. It seems that under W, this country is no longer a safe place to be anything other than a rabid, frothing-at-the-crotch Conservative Christian and that attitude is becoming the norm on AB as well. I doubt Bush's anti-terror measures are any more or less effective than anything Kerry could've implemented, and the lack of declassified facts means that your 'facts' are merely White House proaganda. However Bush (and/or his administration) has done more to destroy freedom in America than Bin Laden. I could be detained and executed without judicial review for any (or no) reason! He is a good man, but a TERRIBLE president. But Rott is right - he's probably doing better than Nader would!

If John Kerry were president I don't think we'd be as left as you think...I worked on his campaign and can tell you that he, like all politicians would have moved to the middle.

I wouldn't say "all", at least not unconditionally. It seems like we went through a time where the middle was demonized as it was to the left of the Far-right and moderates were unelectable. Now that things have calmed down a bit, the middle seems like a more electable place for a politician/candidate to be. Whether they are there due to their beliefs or just to enhance their electability depends on who we're talking about.

I am not a 'religious conservative' by any means. But I am much more concerned about islamic 'extremism' than christian fundamentalists. I have been around Christians my whole life and they never tried to cut my head or other parts off. They don't chant 'Death to America' like Irans parliment. The worst I get from christian fundamentalists is 'they don't like me'. Wah. Thats a lot different from trying to kill you. There is a huge difference, and one day you leftists will understand the threat posed by Islamic extremism, coupled with state- sponsored terrorism. Your leftist cities will be hit hardest, so you'd better start paying attention.
by NoWayJose on December 2nd, 2006
Why chant when you can just change the law to allow detention of anybody for any (or no) reason? You spend your time worrying about Muslim terrorists; I worry about Fundamentalist dictatorships. If nothing else, we have more groundwork for a dictatorship in the US than for a terrorist strike. You don't worry because you don't think they'll ever come for you.

All I can say is this. If anyone BUT Bush were in office on 9-11-01, I'm afraid the fact is it would have never happened. Bush had fair warning that it was going to happen and he ignored it. Thus, the incident happened. Now how's that for love of your country. Quite frankly I'm surprised we didn't have more attacks during Bushes stay at the white house. It
s clear to me that the presidency was bought for him by his daddy because he sure wouldn't have carried all those votes to win on merit.
