Protestants believe that the Virgin Mary, Jesus' mother, was a pure woman, not without sin, but one that God felt was worthy of being the mother of Jesus. She found favor with God and was blessed because of it. Protestants do not believe that she was sinless. We don't pray to her, we don't expect miracles from her and we don't believe she has the ablility to answer prayer or forgive sins. The Bible says that ALL Have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. Mary was no exception. She needed Jesus' Blood to be saved too. In the Bible, someone went to Jesus and told Him that His mother and brothers we outside and wanted to speak to Him. His reply was "Who is my mother and who are my brothers? Those who hear my words and believe on Him who sent me are my mothers and brothers." Again the Bible tells of a time when someone came to Mary and wanted her to do something only Jesus could do and she told them not to ask her but to ask Jesus. She asked them, "Why are you asking me? I am not the one you want. Jesus is the one you want." So she tells us right there that she is not the one we are to worship and pray to. Jesus is. After Jesus' death and ressurection, and after the Day of Pentecost, Mary is barely mentioned again. I think there is a reason for that. The focus of the Bible is The Savior, The Messiah, The Christ who is Jesus, not Mary. She was a holy woman who found favour with God the Father but she is not our salvation. It's Jesus and only Jesus. Protestants also believe that Mary and Joseph did indeed have other children which means that Mary was not a virgin when she left this earth. Infact, the Bible distinctly tells us that Joseph, Mary's husband, didn't KNOW her until after Mary had given birth to Jesus. The biblical term KNOW means to have sexual relations with. That would have made her a virgin at the time of Jesus' birth. The Bible also tells us in the Book of James, that James, the brother of Jesus ....... So you see, Mary could not have been a virgin all her life. But she was until after the birth of Jesus.

    • there is no such statement by Mary in the NT but this a statement of Protestant belief, which minimizes Mary.
