The swelling and pain went away for me after about four days. Ice cream and cold drinks as well as taking ibuprofen really helped with the swelling.

    • When I went to get my tongue done they told me to stay away from ice cream and cheese until 2 weeks after having it done.

    • Did they say why? Every piercer is going to give you different advice and it's important to listen to him/her. However, mine didn't say that and only specified that I should use mouth wash after anything I eat. To each their own but I just asked my piercer and he told me that there is no reason to avoid ice cream so long as you wash your mouth out with rinse afterward.
