If JWs have the "Truth" and the holy spirit guides them why have they made false prophecies about Armageddon? Has the "truth" changed? Every decade when the world does not end their views change!

    JAMMco... its complicated...

I am only aware of one time when people within the Jehovah's Witness organization anticipated a set date in the mid 70's. After that, there have been no 'false prophecies'.

The truth hasn't changed, just ones understanding of what the truth is. Armageddon is still coming, that truth hasn't changed... you just cannot put a date on when it is coming, no one on Earth knows when it is coming, but there are signs in the bible of what to look for.

JW's haven't been the only ones who mistakingly set a date, but they've only made that mistake once, and were humbled by it. They fess up to their mistakes, and change when necessary.

    • Thanks, JAMM. As a JW, i am aware of several times that the organization put forth possible dates for various events. You make a good point that others have done the same. Prophecy is not a clear cut thing. We often don't know that it's being fulfilled until we are in the midst of it. Many eagerly anticipated the coming Messiah and were sometimes wrong in their expectations.
Those who slumber through these last days may never make a wrong guess, but they will miss the party altogether.
Some are eagerly on the watch, on 'high alert', and thus may jump the gun. Others are asleep at their post and occasionally rouse themselves long enough to find fault with the vigilent few.

    • To my knowledge they have given out five dates!

They even printed the 1975 date in the WT but then afterwards told the congregations that some people read more into than they should have done but it was printed in the WT so what were they supposed to think?

Some people sold their homes and gave up their jobs spending their last days carryihg out God's work and were encouraged to do this. However, when the prophesy didn't materialise despite the millions of dollars of money the organisation have which everyone has helped to accumulate for them they did not rehouse or assist anyone in getting back on their feet. What kind of christian behaviour is that?

    • What kind of Christian behavior is spreading gossip that is not true? April, please post what article says what you are saying.
      .."
Watchtower 4/15/1967 Excerpt from paragraph 25 "..According to a more recent calculation of the Bible timetable, six thousand years of man’s existence will end in the latter half of the year 1975, which is well within this century. The Bible millennium is ahead of us, and, according to the count of time and the events of world history, it is approaching. It is not ending, as Roman Catholic comments on the Bible would make us believe.."

    • Being snarky again, are you Tex? :). What is not true about what April said? - 1799, 1874, 1914, 1915, 1918, 1925, 1975. Have you ever heard of Bethsharim.

    • Are you saying that if April said 5 dates, the 7 you gave must be true? As far as Beth, I don't know what any of your ex-girlfriends has to do with any of this. Still waithing for some articles rather than hear-say.
