You're reading Do leaders in the LDS church teach that sincere, practicing Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and/or Evangelical persons are Christians?
Comments
The downrating of this answer really perplexes me, particularly since no one has commented or provided any effort to prove it in error. It makes me think the answer is right on, but simply too embarrassing to Mormoms, so they do what they always do with such information: they attempt to bury it.

I have not downrated your comment, but have not personally observed any attacks by Mormons on Christianity of other faiths as far as whether they believe in Christ. Rather, Mormons distinguish between reformed Christianity (philosophers, seminarians, and theologians like Martin Luther, John Calvin...) and restored Christianity (God the Father and Jesus Christ via Joseph Smith).
The biggest differences are probably 1) directness of authority and 2) reliance on human interpretation as in the Nicene Creed, vs. divine interpretation by prophets, seers, and revelators.
Personally, I consider all people who believe in Jesus Christ to be Christians, and more so when they follow his teachings and example.
No Mormon would excommunicate other Christians from the greater family of Christianity, though most would question the validity of widely inconsistent positions on such basic teachings as baptism (sprinkling vs immersion) or the nature of God and his relationship to man.

Fynnn if you would be so kind as to show some quotes from Mormon prophets or scriptures that differ from the stance I believe the church has always held:
That those other Christian churches do try to follow Christ (and there is some goodness and truth in them) but don't have a correct understanding of Him or His teachings, and lack the authority to perform necessary saving ordinances.

or to put it another way Yes they are Christian churches, but they are false Christians churches and though living by the precepts taught in those churches may be commendable and respectable it will not bring salvation, which can only come by having faith in Jesus Christ, taking on His name, and making sacred covenants by the power of His priesthood.
