  • I live in FL and worked on air compressors, a lot of places I went were secure and its easier for them to take your license instead of filling out a bunch of paper work. they do it for two reasons, to ensure they get their pass back, and in case something happens on property to know who's there.
  • It's legal as long as you GAVE it to him, which I would NEVER do. He can write the info down.
  • Perfectly legal. Private property. Tell a joke or make a compliment so the guard remembers you. The drivers license can be held if you lose temp badge and they can charge you to get your license back. Legally, like voting, a picture ID is considered like legal tender.
  • Security guards are not police officers. They have no arrest powers, nor do they have an authority to withold a persons drivers license, like the real police. It could be considered petit larceny, in some cases.
