  • I good question. What are you using to drive these speakers? An aftermarket amp, stock amp, factory radio, aftermarket radio...? Also, are the original speakers part of a component set (seperate tweeters and/or crossovers)? The answer to your question is all in the context of what you're wiring the speaker to.
  • I have the same question. I pulled a set of 4x6 front speakers out of my 1993 Suburban, only to see that they are marked as 9.5 ohms. Did you find an answer to your question? I'd also like to replace them with 4x6 4-ohm speakers, because that is what seems to be available online. Anybody know if this will work?
  • 4 ohm speakers are the only aftermarket replacements you will find without getting factory speakers from a dealership. All car audio output IC's are designed to work best at a 4 ohm load. The factory uses higher ohm speakers in the front of larger vehicles to produce lower volume in the front so that the rear speakers can be heard. Replacing them with 4 ohm speakers will not cause any problems. Although you may need to fade your radio more to the rear to balance out the volume.
