To finally get this out and in the open, I know what the term "pwn" means in shooters, but why was that chosen to mean what it does, and is it an acronym, and if so, what does the three letters signify?

It's an online slang, or lingo, mixing both the words own and pawn together. Own is popular these days when you feel that you've ''beaten'' someone online through an argument, debate or flame war. Like, I totally owned you. It's now used online to describe everything which is depicted as awesome or superior in one's opinion, like, horror movies own. Pawn because it's the weakest piece in a chess set, rather insignificant and easily dealt with, which has been added to the word to establish someone on the Internet that you easily dealt with, or while making comparisons; Michael Myers would so pwn Jason Voorhees in a fight. It's used for a LOT of things now, in shooters, forums, entertainment discussions, even against users, but it's always in the same context, and slightly rude if you ask me.
