The Lord Jesus Christ
-
Either Jesus Christ or a man who helps his wife and does his fair share with the housework. Women are still searching for the man who helps his wife.
-
There's such a pantheon - Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, the Pope... I find it so difficult to choose. I'll say it is my father (dad, pop, call him what you will). Along with my mother he is the one person I know is responsible for my existence, and that makes him the greatest man who ever lived, in my eyes. You can keep your religious figures, I've got someone better.
-
You are. The trick is to live up to it.
-
Jesus Christ
-
Jesus Christ. He's the only one that died for you me and all of mankind.

Perryman, you already know the answer, and the most frequent answer you are getting is not surprising you. A great answer can be found in a little maroon book. One of the best I have ever read.

Religious figures aside (because they have been listed so much), I would have to say FDR because he lead us through the great depression and WWII, even though he was paralyzed from the waist-down
-
I would say myself, but I can't realy call what I do living. So I'm gonna say Mohondus K. Ghandi.
-

Jesus Christ. Here are a few reasons why. The reference work, The Historians’ History of the World” observed: “The historical result of Jesus’ activities was more momentous, even from a strictly secular standpoint, than the deeds of any other character of history. A new era, recognized by the chief civilizations of the world, dates from his birth”. In December of 2002, the heading of a Wall Street Journal editorial stated: “Science Can’t Ignore Jesus.” It’s writer concluded: “Most scholars, barring the stray atheist, have already accepted Jesus of Nazareth as a historical person”. Time magazine reported, “To deny that the single most powerful figure, not merely in these two millenniums but in all human history, has been Jesus of Nazareth.” It added: “A serious argument can be made that no one else’s life has proved remotely as powerful and enduring as that of Jesus.”
-
I would also say Bob Marley.
-
I think a lot of great men are sat quietly at home whilst other people take credit for their greatness. Or are great in ways that aren't interesting enough to make the headlines. And being great, they don't even care. So I don't know- but hats off to them.

jesus got the vote of 7 out of 16 people when i counted. my answer however would have to be some unknown. i say this because there have been so many people in history and so few famous ones. the liklihood that the best person ever was one of the people who were famous just seems low to me. would anybody say jennifer anniston. ashton kutcher? i doubt it. it was probably some guy who never got a name for himself. another idea might be edgar allan poe
-

Alexander the Great (among the makers of "history") But if you consider the history of science, philosophy, literature, art, religion etc., there would be some other candidates, e. g.: Carl F. The historian H. G. Wells said that a man's greatness can be measured by 'what he leaves to grow, and whether he started others to think along fresh lines with a vigor that persisted after him.' Wells, although not claiming to be a Christian, acknowledged: "By this test Jesus stands first."

Michael H. Hart of USA, compiled a ranking list of the 100 most influential persons in the history of the entire humanity, who authored book “The 100 most influential persons", published in 1978 by Hart Publishing Company Inc. He ranked Muhammad peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, as the number one, at the top of his list. “My choice of Muhammad to lead the best of the world’s most influential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels.

The greatest Man in History Lamartine, Historic de la Turquie, Paris 1854, Vol. 11 pp. 276-2727. "Philosopher, Orator, Apostle, Legislator. Warrior, Conqueror of ideas, Restorer of rational beliefs, of a cult without images; the founder of twenty terrestrial empires and of one spiritual empire, that is Muhammed. As regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?" Encyclopaedia Britannica "Muhummed is the most successful of all Prophets and religious personalities."

Probably someone in the past that never made the history books. I kind of like Abraham Lincoln for the last few hundred years, he held this country together when it was exploding on all sides and inside out. Before that there were many leaders who did great things such as Alexander, many Roman leaders, Greeks and in the East as well. But that was written a long time ago and the facts are not as clear as a more modern person's deeds. If there is any truth to the story Moses was a pretty cool guy.

At this stage of human history, thinking of all the pain and darkness in the World, acknowledging the diluted facts surrounding the lives of all the supposed greatest people who ever lived (especially religious pioneers such as Jesus, Moses, Mohammed, Buddha, etc), coping with the fear of living in today's world and it's scurges (war, violence, terrorism, poverty, disease, famine, selfishness, greed & corruption, jealousy, ignorance, depression, hatred), for a person to live their lives by a code of righteousness and morality, always doing what is right and at every opportunity helping someone in need, then they are the greatest person who ever lived and I like to think that I too fit into that category. Do you?

lets say that jesus did not die for your sins. would he still be the greatest?how are we measuring greatness.if it is his sacrifice that makes him great that is not an accomplishment because it is god that cleans the sins after you believe that jesus died for you. if jesus is devine than he can not die and can not call it sacrifice and him not a man. it is your belief that makes him the greatest man of all time and not his act of sacrificing himself, something that he had no choice according to the bible because the will of god ruled over this mater. the new faith had quite an impact for many followers of this belief but so did budha and they are way off course when it comes to the truth. so the greatest man who ever lived should be someone who through his actions and his life established a political social spiritual and economocal system of preserving the true god in the hearts of people for generations to follow. and christianity which is one of the interpretation of the events after jesus was taken away is a man made religion, far away from what jesus practiced who came for the lost sheeps of israel and those arrogant sheeps did not give him enough time to establish anything. if christianity is the product that you are so proud of, than thank paul, because jesus was not there.wake up people

By great what do you mean? A great leader, a great murderer, a great peacemake, a great inventor, great scientist or the most impactful person to walk on this earth. Leader is way too broad I ccould name generals, kings and head of states and I wouldn't be wrong. Great murderer would either be Hitler, Alexander the Great or Ghegkis Khan. Hell so many I can't name. You could put Truman on there. He did kill the crap load of people in small period of time. The first Emperor of China was a ruthless ruler too. Peacemake would be Ghandhi, Jesus, Buddha, MLK. Invenrot would be Gutenburg, whoever made the wheel, Edison, Bell, whoever made the computer and whoever created and gun and gun powder and of course the atomic bomb. Da vinci. Scientist would be Eistein, Darwin, Newton, Copernicus, Galileo, and the guy who found the atom. Most impactful would be Hitler, Ghandhi, Jesus, Alexander the Great, Moses, Mohammad, Augustine.
