  • you may think that one penny does not have that much importance, but keep collecting and you'll soon have a dollar. with that dollar, buy some gum. or something from the 99 cent store.
  • I think we should get rid of pennies and round everything to the nearest nickel. They cost more to mint than they are worth. Not very fiscally prudent with the economic problems we face..
  • Yes I really need that penny, i just used it to give you my two cents! Corny I know!
  • Just keep in mind, when they do away with it they won't be 'rounding down' yo...
  • You're right! I'm off to spend a penny.
  • "Give a call, we'll talk, no big whoop."
  • I don't think we do. (A cent, in the case of my country which by the way is 0.125 of a U.S. Penny) We can always round up figures to the nearest "nickel",but that's just me thinking in practical terms. I guess we have to use it though in terms of perfect accuracy when it comes to monetary transactions and percentages in taxes, interests gained, etc.
  • "Pennies From Heaven" I found a penny today Just laying on the ground But it's not just a penny This little coin I've found. Found pennies come from Heaven That's what my Grandpa told me, He said, "Angels toss them down." Oh, how I loved that story. He said, "When an angel misses you They toss a penny down, Sometimes just to cheer you up To make a smile out of your frown." So don't pass by that penny When you're feeling blue, It may be a penny from Heaven That an Angel tossed to you. http://www.ziplo.com/Pennies.html
  • Yes. We really need the penny. When it comes to pricing goods for businesses, the difference of one or two pennies is huge over millions of products. Inflation would skyrocket. And inflation is a lot worse then a recession.
  • A penny is not an absolute must have or die, but I do feel it is important enough to keep ... if its value drops too low, just do what many other nations have already done ... decimate the value of ALL the currency and issue new money where 10 old dollars equals 1 new dollar ... then let the economy continue ...
  • We can't get rid of it now. Everything we pay will go up. And think about the penny taxes they pull on us. Then it would be a nickel tax every year... It is hard enough to save a penny now-a-days. I don't see myself saving a nickel. And just to say, also, I am not a big fan of the penny, but I doubt it will go away.
  • yes thats they still have it 2.99 would not work.
  • When you say "Talk amongst yourselves" do my other personalities count? Keep the penny, I started with a penny on my way to my first million!
  • With how widely available and accept credit is in this day and age, we barely "Need" tangible currency at all. But just speaking from personal opinion, I don't think money should be made any less "Real" than it is as is, not even by rounding out the single cents. Those pennies may seem insignificant, but they add up, and without the cent, there's a danger of people having no real conception as to just how much they may be losing. And even apart from that more practical facet, like I said before, I have a basic objection to money, the thing that goes the farthest towards determining a person's quality of life in any capitalist nation, being transformed into worthless "Credit". Just like dollars are no longer worth their alleged worth in precious metals, before long credit will be the main form of currency, and won't even be worth it's own alleged worth in paper and ink. The big trend towards credit, which eliminating the penny is, trust me, part of, is synonymous with the march towards credit/money being equated more and more with the worth of a person, as opposed to the worth of what's in their wallet. And that, in my opinion, is pretty high up on the list of ways *Not* to run a society.
  • YES. AS I SAID BEFORE!
  • Lets do a test, everyone who doesn't want pennies, send them to me.
  • I think it's worth keeping. If they get rid of it, everything would have to be rounded off to the nickel..and I'm sure that will be UP, not down!
  • nope, I find them quite annoying.
  • We probably could, yes. I'd be sad to see the little guy go though!
  • Of course we do, Kev.."Find a penny pick it up all day you'll have good luck..Find a penny pass it by you'll wish you'd never let it lie" or whatever..you realize you will be removing all our good luck? Do you really want to do that, my friend? Maybe instead of doing away with the penny we need to create a ha'penny to increase our luck..whaddya say, Kev? :) Happy Thursday,my friend! :) ((hugs))
  • they got rid of our 1 and 2 cent coins here in Australia a number of years ago ...and 90% of things were rounded up...funny that!...we lose our small change and big business makes a bloody profit out of it, and don't think it doesn't add up
  • Well in my case pennies are good for two things: #1 we have a penny candy store in town and you can buy candy for 2cents LOL #2 Didn't you know that every penny found on the ground is a KISS from heaven :) & it always seems like I'll be having a bad day and low and behold there's a penny or two and I smile thinking its my Kiss from heaven that day!
  • Yes, I would miss collectiong them and then turning them all in to the bank in roll after roll:)
  • A penny saved is a penny earned.
  • When it costs more than a penny to mint, it doesn't make a lot of sense, does it?
  • Pennies and nickels are fodder. They don't really matter any more, but you can feed them to the animals.
  • It has nostalgic value. Yes, I like to see the penny stick around for awhile longer.
  • Hey! Y not we play a game of heads and tails? I got the dips on the heads! *a few seconds later* YAY! I WON!
  • I dont' think so. I heard that they are going to get rid of it because it costs the Mint 1.7 cents to make a penny that only has a value of 1 cent. Not very smart.
  • Great question...but they can add up when donated. Your pennies + my pennies, etc. can make a difference. Collect them in a jar and make an annual donation to a cause you believe in. :D
  • If its penny for your thoughts now that means it's gunna be 5 cents without the penny around. To be honest and to include this thought, hardly worth 5 cents in my opinion. :-) -s
  • we definitely do not. waste of time and energy.
  • Now that almost all homes have circuit breakers probably not. Did you ever put a penny in the fusebox? Did your home burn down? Do you even know what I'm talking about?
  • ONLY IF ITS A 1909 SVDB WORTH A MANSION NOW.
  • Pennies are collected by many charities. Eliminating the penny eliminates this help to the needy. Wealthy right-wing scrooges love this. Pennies make for legitimate profits. With a tax of 15%, a purchase of $0.87 at Wal-Mart comes to about $1.01. Drop the penny and it will be $1.05 instead. The extra 4 cents go to extremely wealthy Wal-Mart shareholders ...for doing nothing. Collect a million pennies...and you'll have $10,000. Enough to buy a Hyundai.
  • yes we need the penny but it could be made out of different metal that does not exceed coin value 1cent copper U.S. penny = 1.17 cents metal value and if you think it does not add up for value hypothectically you are loaned 2-3 cents interest because of no penny's is going to be on 5 cents they are naturally going to round up if you ever had coin jar and take it to the bank when it is full from all those penny's you would be suprised how much money you have
  • yes i remember buying things when i was a kid for penny's and the guy that ran that tackle store still made tons of money off 1-3 cent sales and that was honest value of that tackle now you saying he should charge 5 cents because have to round up still would go there but buy way less that smallest denomination has big economic effects
  • My kids love the penny. The penny has given them the bucks. http://mperry2700.avonrepresentative.com/
