Meditation has helped, but occasionally those thoughts will intrude even then. Peace for me usually arrives in the form of sleep.

There are many meditation cd's on the market that are made just for that. I will also turn on a sound maker that plays the noise of waves from an ocean, and lie down and try to picture myself at the beach, with the warm sun beating down on me, and the sand between my toes. It is quite relaxing. Hope this helps!

Yoga is REALLY good for that. If you can't do a class, google some yoga breathing exercises. Also, check some of those visualsation. In fact ANY sport is good - I like biking and swimming. Cooking works too - if you're into it. I am. What do you really like doing?

Honestly, one of the things that helps me is a little physical exercise. It doesn't have to be a lot. Just 20 minutes of walking 3 times/week. It works wonders for me.

I can block external things out pretty well, then I think about where the universe physically ends. Once I focus on that, my mind is open to the universe and it's open space. Once I get there, I can have some peace.

I threaten my brain that I'll stab it with a Q-tip if it doesn't shut up. Works every time.

Thinking isn't normally a problem for me, but when it is, I just remember something that gets me really angry, a memory or a person or a group (KKK works well on getting me riled), then I have a focus point, then, I calm myself down, by thinking of something nice, for example, the memory I have of meeting my 2nd cousins for the first time, we had so much fun, I'd never met them before, but we have so much in common. Sorry, sidetracked! ANYWAY, so yes, I cope by getting angry, and calming myself down, everything else calms down when I'm 'doing' something metaphysically (I don't know what metaphysically would imply, but hey, sounds quite good!?)
