  • High school and college footballs are a bit larger than the pro size. These early levels rely more on passing, and the football's larger size makes it easier to throw. The NFL uses a smaller ball because it used to be a rush dominated league. This smaller ball was easier to carry than to throw. I do know that some high schools (including mine) and possibly some colleges are switching to a ball model called a GST, which is a little bit more like the pro size, but still easier to throw.
