  • My father had that. Not from diabetes, but from hardening of the arteries after decades of smoking. I watched his toes turn black, his feet purple, and his ankles reddish-purple before he gave in. He lay down and could not stand, so he had my mom call an ambulance. He died in the hospital. His life could have been extended by several years, had he listened to his doctor and had the toes amputated when it started. Of course, due to poor circulation, it would have progressed anyway, but the necrosis would not have entered his bloodstream. See your doctor and follow his/her advice.
