• A platitude is a trite, meaningless, or prosaic statement that is presented as if it were significant and original. platitude 1 : the quality or state of being dull or insipid 2 : a banal, trite, or stale remark Based on the above definitions, just one use of platitude could bother me if I were not really happy at that time.
  • Platitude abuse is illegal in all 50 U.S. states and most industrialized countries. However, it continues "under the radar", as we all know... and of course in the third world it's common for platitudes to work long hours under unbearable conditions, being invoked for nearly any sort of problem or situation. It's our own fault, really: society needs to care more about platitude abuse... we are too focused and selfish, as long as we look good, feel good, and have plenty of beer who cares about platitudes? But that very attitude will be our downfall. It's crucial to raise awareness of this issue. You can find out more at
  • I don't like anything that is trite and meaningless, but I'm a pretty tolerant sort. I probably wouldn't let it bother me much. It's not worth the fuss to get all bothered, being such a silly thing.
  • I'm fine, Barca, and you? No bother at all. I'm happy to assist you! I haven't noticed an over abundance of platitudes. For myself, I think we should all be thankful that we have a forum like this where we are free to discuss these things. Even if you get upset by the excessive use of platitudes, you should turn that frown upside down. Tomorrow is another day, after all, and it will all work out in the end. ;)
  • No, not at all..nor does it bother me if people misspell words, misuse them or anything else that is of a superficial nature. I'm interested in what the person wants to ask or what the person wants to say..if the presentation is trite, hackneyed or whatever, that is irrelevant..I'm interested in the heart of the matter, the content, the point, the gist, the center..all the rest is noise! :)
  • there, there, now....I rather enjoy the pointless self absorbed story myself....LOL
  • Hey~ I'm cool as a cucumber w/it!
  • Thank you for the question. ( ;-) ) No... Doesn't bother me in the least. It shows me that my answer or comment was appreciated.
  • Normally, I'd pass over a question like this for someone else to answer, but I think the buck stops here. Some of the questions and answers have gotten stale, and we must do away with them. It's time for a paradigm shift and some new, fresh, out-of-the-box, goal-oriented thoughts that lead to more dynamic questions and answers. I have a dream, Barca, that one day we'll be rated not by the quantity of questions and answers but by the quality of our contributions. Of course, all of these are borrowed from other places. Oh well, I guess I should just get over it. ; ) But to answer your question, no, it doesn't bother me when others use excessive platitudes, as long as they're used properly. : )
  • Not much gets to me, beyond willful idiocy. I'm sure my refusal to whitewash and sugarcoat bothers the Miss Manners wannabes, way more than their sickly sweet politeness and airs bothers me. I don't require clones.
