  • The wreck of a British trawler believed to have been sunk by a gigantic bubble of gas could solve the mystery of the legendary Bermuda Triangle. Scientists found the boat, believed to have gone missing around 70 years ago, 450ft down last week. It was lying almost untouched - the right way up and with its nets still attached - on a craggy patch called Witch's Hole 100 miles off Aberdeen. Now experts say it was almost certainly doomed by methane gas bubbling from the sea bed there. The rising gas reduced the density of the sea water so much that the fishing boat was no longer able to stay afloat. It disappeared down the gas "hole" like a lift descending down a shaft. And sailors jumping overboard would have done the same. Scientists say a similar phenomenon may explain why dozens of ships have sunk in the region in the Atlantic known as the Bermuda Triangle. It too has areas where methane escapes from the sea bed. The 300-metre wide site where the Scottish boat was found is one of a number of "pockmarks" caused by gas. http://www.rense.com/general5/mystasd.htm
  • Well, you have to first ask if there's truly a mystery. The US Coast Guard and Lloyd's of London show statistcs implying the disppearances within the Bermuda Triangle and those outside its boundaries are roughly equal in number. Flight 19, the famous Navy squadron that went down in the Triangle, did so through simple pilot error. The triangles coordinates and name were crafted by reporters and the some stories of disappearances have been embelished over time. This area of water also containes the swift and turbulent Gulf stream, sudden and sometimes violent changes in weather patterns and has seen its share of pirates over the last several decades. There are some unexplained disappearances, but then that's true for almost any body of water. So they "mystery" seems to dispelled bit by bit as we learn more about the world around us.
  • No. If it exists it has never been adequately explained.
  • Actually, the bermuda triangle shouldn't be a problem anymore. Whatever source of chaos that has plagued the region has shifted to a 10 meter triangle around me. Just for nostalga sake, I still call it the bermuda triangle. All kinds of statistically improbable events, both dangerous or freaky, now seem to be attracted to me. I swear I can be anywhere at anytime and the most insane unelievable events will occur either to me, or in my presence. If I sound paranoid, Its because I am. It has gotten so bad on some days that I just drive home and lie in bed so nothing bad happens to anyone around me. If I had a dollar for every time some representative of a vendor I am dealing with has said , "I'm so sorry, this has never happened before", or "In my XX years of service I have never encountered this", I would be a very wealthy man. I have long said the government should hire me and just observe my actions. They could reverse the course of half the worlds problems by doing the opposite of what I do. I would do it for free but no one would take mw seriously :-) You are all out there thinking of a litany of names to call me right now. I don't blame you, I would do the same. What my family, friends, and aquaintances call me is Bermuda or Bermuda Triangle anytime one of these events occurs. Luckily, its not every day. However, othertimes the phenomenon follows in clusters of incidents. Best Regards, "Bermuda" or "The Bermuda Triangle"
