The reverse-L-shaped symbol is sown or embroidered on the right breast of Mormon Temple Garments ("Mormon underwear"). I have read that for Mormons and Latter-Day Saints view the symbol as the "mark of the Square" representing "exactness and honor." The "L" is embroidered along with another Freemason symbol, the Compass (a "V").
