  • In the absence of a fraud or certain legal debt obligations (child support, payment of fines, etc.), a person cannot be held in jail for non-payment of debts. The idea of "debtor's prison" has largely fallen out of favor in the Western world. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debtor%27s_prison
  • I am not sure about Indiana in particular, but in some states a form of debtors prison still exists. You cannot be put in jail for not paying debt, but you can be put in jail for being in contempt of court (in some states) for not following the judges order. Thus, some judges have used this power to keep people in prison, but it is only done when it is known that the person is hiding assets, and the person is only held until they disclose the location of the assets. But the general answer is no.
