  • My very un techie answer is that it was some sort of container that holds the tablets of which the 10 comandements are written on, but no one has any hard evidence of where it is.
  • In the most simplistic terms it's the container for the 10 commandments, current location unknown. . Try this for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ark_of_the_Covenant
  • The Ark of the Covenant was the central element of Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem. It was a small golden box, with golden poles on either side and two golden figurines, known as "cherubim" on its lid. Inside this golden container was a wooden box, which contained a smaller golden box. The original "Tablets of the Law" were housed in that golden box. The Ark of the Covenant traveled with the Children of Israel for their 40 years in the desert and was later housed in various makeshift sanctuaries in Israel before finally being incorporated into the Temple in Jerusalem. When Solomon designed the Temple, he created a subterranean maze beneath the Temple Mount, which could be used to hide the Ark, should the need arise. Some years prior to the Bablyonian destruction of that Temple, King Josiah hid the Ark there. To date, nobody has found the maze or the Ark. [Interestingly, this story is apparently the inspiration for "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark"]
  • A box of wood, lined in gold, which was carried as a litter with golden poles which were never to be removed. The Mercy Seat served as its lid, and two golden cherubim sat on top, facing each other, their wings covering their faces. Within the ark rested the tablets on which Moses chipped the Ten Commandments (version 2.0, as he broke the first edition), Aaron's Rod which budded, and a container of the Mana that God gave the Hebrew children as food in the wilderness. I do not know when it disappeared, but its location is today unknown. There are several theories as to its location (a tribe in Ethiopia may or may not have it in a tent that only one person is allowed to enter, it may be in an underground maze...) My personal belief is that its purpose on earth has been served, and like Noah's ark, it will never be found, as it is no longer here. God seems to like bringing his toys home when he's done playing with them ^_^ (Jesus' body, Elijah, Eden...
