  • Missouri Applies for Statehood- 1819 Admitted-1820 Maine has application thrust upon it-1819 Admitted-1820 Arkansas-becomes territory, split off from Mo. 1819 (I couldn't find when it applied) Admitted-June 15, 1836 Michigan -Holds constitutional convention (and applies?) 2nd Monday in May 1835 admitted-January 26, 1837 Florida-drafts constitution in 1838 (and applies?) Admitted-March 3, 1845. Texas-Applies-Well, this is way complicated, Declares Independence from Mexico 1836 in anticipation of rapid annexation to US and begins negotiations with US Govt.. Mexico signs treaty recognizing independence, US congress begins procedure for annexation. Mexico says we didn't really mean it. US backs off. Texas becomes Republic. US recognizes Republic of Texas 1838. Diplomatic talks between US and Texas regarding annexation continue for years. 1844 US President Tyler signs treaty with Texas for annexation and territorial status. Congress rejects treaty.February 28, 1845, the U.S. Congress passes annexation as a territory, to take effect December 29, 1845 . Oct. 1845 Republic writes constitution to meet requirements OF NW Ordinances. Admitted-Dec. 29, 1845, bypassing territorial status, and requirements of Northwest Ordinances. US Congress claims the earlier treaty, or at least one of them, negates requirements of the Ordinances, even tho none of the treaties had been approved by congress. Treaty or not a treaty? Recognition or non recognition? The questions are to cause vexation and pleasure to legal scholars, courts, and historians, even learne'd ones, property owners, surveyors, etc to the present. I goy more, which I will eventually post in an edit, but I had to get my answer in afore some oneelse did.
