Do the Simpsons characters have jaundice, too much vitamin A or are they suffering some sort of unknown disease since they mostly all are yellow?

I think jaundice or hypercarotenosis (too many carrots - beta-carotene - a Vitamin A pre-cursor - colouring the skin). Interesting...... :)

Well they aren't human. They could be some new breed of animal (maybe dog) that has 4 fingers and yellowish skin.

Matt Groening decided they should be yellow because they would be more noticable since most cartoons are flesh coloured

I agree with the nuclear power plant theory, I am sure with the people who work for the plant, many things have gone wrong in the past. This explains everything.
