  • Hard to pick just one. I really liked Unforgiven for its (relative) realism. ("Realistic" compared to most other Westerns.) * But then there's Butch Cassidy, and For a Few Dollars More, and The Magnificent Seven... * I'll go with For a Few Dollars More, but ask me tomorrow and I might pick a different one, depending on my mood.

Thanks for sharing! Picking just one will make anyone really "think hard" and decide which ones are truly their favorites. It's hard to decide on a top favorite, unless you are *convinced* that it is your favorite. BTW, I don't have to ask you tomorrow. If you learn it from me, I'll answer the same question repeatedly if I feel the need to: https://www.answerbag.com/q_view/3529181#a8902576 Usually my first mention is my favorite. And my answers do not change depending on my mood or from time to time. If they do, it would be a slight change.

  • How the West Was Won (1962): https://youtu.be/MM_UUB6J-Fw?si=dZc3JGX_tZMY0op9 This Western movie is an epic in every sense. Not only was it filmed in spectacular color using the state-of-the-art Cinerama of that time, but the array of acting talent and the filming locations are breathtaking.

Anyone interested in buying this DVD movie, "the snapcase edition" is the real Cinerama version using synchronized 35mm projectors for an ultra-wide picture. The full movie is 2 hours and 44 minutes long, and played in 1 disc.
  • For years, The Magnificent Seven (1960) was my favorite Western movie. How the West Was Won barely beat it out in my top favorites.
  • The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). It is a spaghetti Western film starring Clint Eastwood, and his best performance as a Western character in my opinion.
  • The Valley of Gwangi (1969) is in my Top 5 favorite Western movies: https://youtu.be/X0i0RSpQEf8?si=SL3M-Ik1yvgni4Q- It's a Western/Fantasy movie, and filled with good fun and excitement. 🤠 🦕
  • Little Big Man was another good one, along with Jeremiah Johnson. 3/27/24
  • Dances with wolves, (the movie, not the former member here) is a good one too. 3/27/24

3/27/2024, yeppers, I watched Dances With Wolves last Thanksgiving Day. It is my favorite Kevin Costner Western/Adventure movie.
    • dalcocono
Yup, mine too. "Open range" is another good one with KC and Robert Duvall.

I haven't watched Open Range. I have watched Silverado (1985) and Wyatt Earp (1994). For sure, Dances With Wolves is a very famous movie that made $424.2 million at the box office. The movie also won 7 Oscars. Do you think Graham Greene who played Kicking Bird should have won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor?
    • dalcocono
I do think so. He did a great job in that part. In open range, Costner is a cowboy who works for/with Duvall. They get themselves tangled up in a range war and Costner shows some talents that he had tried to keep hidden away.

I'll look further into the Open Range movie. Certainly, Graham Green would have won an Oscar award if Joe Pesci was not in the nomination list for Goodfellas (1990) who won the award instead in the 1991 Oscars: https://youtu.be/O0Q_nyjuEak?si=kYLmpTKNbt5T8f5Y
