Why do some people press the TV remote control as hard as they can to get it to work?

If it's really as hard as they can, then probably a lack of grip strength. If you meant that figuratively, it's probably because most remotes are terrible and overly mushy.

It's easier than changing the batteries. Just because it never worked before doesn't necessarily mean it won't work this time. LOL
