  • Yes, of course. The animal and its habitat cannot be protected (by law, by wildlife organizations and by international political pressures) if it's not known to exist.
  • Not sure about the photo, or the media, because one thing I've learned from helping wildlife, is that nothing means more to them than their freedom, something man could learn from. And if a mythological creature, then it's clearly managed to evade capture for quite some time, even capture by a photograph. What will us humans do anyway? Capture it, experiment on it, try and breed it, kill it, dissect it, all the same details you see in horror movies about aliens capturing us.
