  • The turquois blue blobs my father's tattoos on his forearms turned into as he got older. When he died they were not recognizable as being anything but blobs of color on his arms. He hated them and wished he had never gotten them. He told me if I ever got a tattoo he would skin it off me. I do not have a tattoo today because if I ever got one I know he would get up out of his grave and skin me! I live about a mile from where he is buried! I feel sorry for those people I see with tattoos all over their bodies because as they get older the same thing will happen to them as well.

I have several tattoos that are now in their 40's and still extremely recognizable. Only the highest quality inks were used and they have only faded slightly. At the time, I sought out the best artist I could find. He happened to be the second best in world competition and only beat out by his own master. When his teacher died, my artist took over his master's place as the best. My tattoos were placed such that they are protected from sunlight and are only seen by those that I choose to show them to. They represent the things dearest to my heart. I am old school biker, but I understand exactly where your Dad was coming from. I've seen more bad tattoos than good on so many people. Today it's a fad & people want to show off, and show how unique they are by getting garbage inked all over themselves. Like your dad, they too will come to regret their mistakes. Imagine the guy who has Asian writing down the side of his neck or on his face when he's in the old folks home and someone tells him that the writing translates to " This fool eats dog shit".

I have heard the inks used today are better than those used on my dad in the 1920s. As skin wears and sluffs off tattoos even today will change some. I agree some of the tattoos I have seen I wouldn't put on a dead dog he might wake up and bite me!
