read the tag, it's really illegal.
-
you can take the tag off AFTER you purchase it. it says not to take it off IF YOU ARE SELLING IT. because it would then be misleading to say a matress is a sealy, when its not.also, the tag has the ingrediants on it, and the person buying it may think its all natural when its really a blend of polyester...
-
Actually it's only illegal if you do so in the warehouse/department store. Or at least that is what I was told.
-
I spent many nights worrying about the mattress police after taking off my tag!
-
Actually, it is illegal but not to you. See, the reason that mattresses have that tag is so that you can tell it isn't stolen or faulty. If you go shopping for a mattress and don't see a tag, don't buy it. It is against the law for someone to sell a mattress with no tag. If you bought a mattress however, and you are going to keep it, you can take the tag off and not worry about getting arrested.

i'm sitting on death row as we speak. the man next to me, killed 12 women and 5 children. my crime: removing the mattress tag.
-
Lol, you guys are hilarious.. but really is it still illegal? Or was it ever? And why?
-
Oh ok thx, I didn't see your answer before I asked. Now I get it.
-
I think if you look *carefully* at the mattress tag, it says not to remove under penalty of law EXCEPT by the final purchaser/user. The reason for this is quite simple: People need to know what materials went into the manufacture of the mattress. If they are allergic to something in the mattress, sleeping on it could be quite hazardous to their health. If you pay attention, you will see similar tags on pillows, couch cushions, stuffed animals and the like.
-
Oh, geeeez, take the tag off! lol :)
-
Each time a tag is removed a kitten dies. Please dont do it.

It's illegal for the companies SELLING the mattress to take the tag off. Back in the old days, they would take the tags off the mattresses and say that the "ingredients" were different than they actually were- and it made people sick, because they were being lied to- some people were allergic and didn't know they were getting jipped. So the SELLER has to keep the tag on, but once it's left the store the BUYER may remove it any any point.
