This is a question which is almost too hard to answer. I had a quick look at eBay, as it's always a good tool to tell you what's selling and what's not. At present (22 Dec 2005) there are 37,957 Star Wars related items for auction. There are "only" 10, 834 items for Star Trek up for auction. Star Trek started earlier than Star Wars and Star Trek as a number of television series. The story of Star Wars is just that, a story. The additional movies that have been made within the last few years, "fill in the gaps" as per the books. Star Trek however has taken on a number of different themes over a long time period which always open the doors for more movies to be made. Either way, both are very good and both have their fan clubs. I'm a treker. Live long and prosper

STAR WARS has, hands down. Star Treks best grossing movie, 1996's "Star Trek: First Contact" only made $150,000,000 in theaters, but Star Wars, "The Phantom Menace" alone made $922,379,000! I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. I'm a Star Trek / Star Wars fan, but more so a Doctor Who fan. I'm also a general Sci-Fi fan. Star Trek has been around longer (Doctor Who even longer [Nov. 23, 1963]), but Star Wars was better at Merchandising. Merchandising, In a nutshell, is why Star Wars has made more money than Star Trek.
