  • Absolutely. Nicotine is an incredibly toxic poison which is also used as a topical insecticide. "The fatal dose of pure nicotine is approximately 40-60 mg" In the grand scheme of things, this is an unbelievably potent poison, which could probably kill an adult if one single pure drop fell onto and was absorbed by the skin. Nicotine is a carcinogen as well, but is ingested at a much lower rate in tobacco smoke than are hundreds or other more potent carcinogens and toxins such as ammonia, cyanide and carbon monoxide.
  • There are two isomers of nicotine: cis- and trans-. One is fairly harmless, the other is a deadly poison. Since the general public has no way of differentiating between the two forms, it's a good idea to handle nicotine and nicotine compounds with extreme caution.
  • Nicotine is not a carcinogen.
