  • The population of Orofino, Idaho was 3,247 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Clearwater County, IdahoClearwater County. Near present-day Orofino at Canoe Camp, the Lewis and Clark expedition built five new dugout canoes and embarked on October 7 1805. Just four-miles north is the town is Dworshak Reservoir, Dworshak National Fish Hatchery, and the Dworshak Dam, third highest dam in the United States.
