William L. Murphy invented a foldable bed to increase floor space in his one-room apartment. He applied for the first patent in 1900 and created the Murphy Wall Bed Company. In 1918 he invented and patented the Murphy bed.

The author of Murphy's Law..."If it can go wrong it will!" Many think Murphy was a pessimist but if you think about it he was an optimist. Have you ever had a Murphy bed fold up when laying on it? A perfect example of Murphy's Law. Really though I have no idea who invented the Murphy bed. Guess you will have to go with "Official Know-it-All's answer. It sounds good to me!
