  • Many automotive paints can be applied via spray gun. Generally, overnight drying occurs in temperatures of 70 degrees or greater and with a humidity level below 50 percent. Exceptions are lacquer paint, which dries in one hour at 140 degrees, and urethane paint, which requires a 450 degree temperature.

  • Go to the auto parts store or paint store and buy the book on how to paint a car. Read it all and follow it to the letter. Paint your trash can a few times to be sure it works the way you think you understood the instructions.
  • Time taken for surface dry is 10 - 30 minutes. Hard Dry in 8 hours and thorough dry by 24 hours. Lacquers dry by evaporation of solvents only. So also some of the latex paints which use water as thinners.
