History
ASTM was founded in 1898 and is one of the biggest organizations for the voluntary developing of standards in the world. ASTM continues to work as a not-for-profit organization.

There are more than 12,000 ASTM standards in categories such as steel, plastics, medical devices and consumer products.

While ASTM standards are considered voluntary but are often required by government regulations to ensure that a company's practices and product meet certain standards.

Development
