Fort Duquesne---a major battleground during the 18th century French and Indian War--was renamed Fort Pitt. The fort was located in what is now Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The French burned and abandoned the fort in 1758, but the British rebuilt it and named it Fort Pitt.
