Hair loss in dogs can be caused by a wide range of factors from fleas to infections. Do not ignore persistent hair loss, as it may indicate other health issues.

It is important to determine how the hair is being lost. The dog may be scratching out its hair or the hair may simply be falling out.
Causes
Some causes of itching that lead to hair loss include infections of the skin, fleas and allergies.
Considerations
Internal causes that may cause your dog's hair to fall out include fungal and bacterial infections and diseases such as demodicosis.
Disease
If your dog is a Nordic breed such as a malamute or poodle, it may be suffering from a condition called Alopecia X. Little is known about this disease, and it can present with hair loss at almost any time during the dog's life.
Warning
Hair loss in dogs can indicate a serious infection. Take the dog to a veterinarian for a complete physical analysis.
