Lamps are household appliances that are used to add artificial light to a space. There are many different sizes and styles of lamps, but all of them function by electricity and have the same basic parts.
Base
The base of the lamp is the bottom part that provides stabilization. It may either rest on the floor or a table top.
Cord
Also known as a "cord set," the cord consists of the wiring that leads the bulb socket to the two-prong plug that receives electricity from a wall outlet.
Switch
Switches allow lamps to be turned on and off. They may be located at different areas of the lamps and may require a different action, but all lamps have a switch.
Bulb Socket
Light bulbs must be screwed into sockets, otherwise a light will not emanate from the lamp.
Shade
To soften the intensity of a bulb's light, most lamps have shades that surround the lamp. These may encapsulate the entire lamp or just the portion around the bulb.
