<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Chain Link Is Cheaper
Chain link is the cheapest fencing option available. Chain-link fences are highly versatile, can come in many colors and can be customized for specific needs. For example, barbed-wire coils can be added to the top of a chain-link fence to maximize security. Chain-link fencing is also highly durable and doesn't require maintenance.
On the Other: Wood Has Benefits
Wooden fencing is indisputably more expensive than chain-link fencing. However, wood fences also have benefits; they are very attractive and are also quite durable. Wood fences come in a variety of styles, including privacy fences, split-rail fences and picket fences. Although chain-link fencing is cheaper, wood might be worth it if the fence is going to be highly visible or if you want maximum privacy.
Bottom Line
Consider your fencing needs and resources. Do you need to save as much money as possible, or do you have more options? Is your fence somewhere it will be visible? Will the appearance of your fence affect the value of your home or property? What function will your fence serve? While chain-link fences are cheaper than wooden fences, in some situations you may prefer the aesthetic appeal of wood.
