Installing a Flowmaster muffler will increase your fuel mileage. Flowmaster mufflers are designed to get the exhaust gasses out of the motor as quickly as possible, which in turn allows the engine to run more efficiently. Not only does this equate to more power and torque, but it means slightly better fuel mileage because the motor runs more efficiently.
On the Other: A Flowmaster is a Performance Upgrade
A Flowmaster muffler is generally considered a performance upgrade that will allow the vehicle to produce more horsepower and torque. This, in turn, means that the vehicle will probably be driven more aggressively, which will negate any increase in fuel mileage.
Bottom Line
According to Flowmaster, their mufflers will increase your vehicles miles per gallons (mpg) rating by 1 to 2 mpg. Certainly not a huge amount but enough to make a small difference in this age of exorbitant gas prices. Keep in mind, though, that you will need to drive your vehicle conservatively to see any gains in fuel mileage, which is counter to installing parts that make it more powerful and faster
