    White boards, also known as dry-erase boards, are used to write on with dry erase markers. White boards are made of a melamine laminate topping with a back of press board. A more modern version of the white board is one made of porcelain steel. You can stick a magnet on a porcelain steel white board. You can't on a melamine board.
