<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: The Diet Does Use Healthy Foods
The foods most used in the Sonoma Diet are healthy, unprocessed whole foods. Based on the foods of the Mediterranean, the Sonoma Diet uses "power foods" such as nuts, grapes, spinach, extra-virgin olive oil, blueberries, broccoli and whole grains. The Sonoma Diet website offers numerous recipes, a meal planner and a weight-loss tracking tool.
On the Other: There's No Exercise or Portion Control
Little is said in the Sonoma Diet about the importance of exercise. There is also no emphasis on portion control, which makes it very easy to overeat. Portions are discussed according to the size of the plate, cup or bowl, not by the weight.
Bottom Line
The Sonoma Diet consists of healthy foods that encourage weight loss and healthy eating. The diet contains an abundance of fresh fruits, nuts, lean meats and vegetables. However, there is little promotion of exercise, and the lack of portion control could lead to overeating.
