<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Adding Height to a Room
When hanging wall paper borders, you generally have two options. You can place them at the top of the room where the wall meets the ceiling, or in the center line around the room. Both have their place, but the overall height of a ceiling will determine proper placement. If your ceilings are less than 8 feet tall, the border should be hung at the top.
On the Other: Closing in a Space
One major concern with wallpaper borders is the fact that if they are placed too low in a room, it can give the room a closed-in feeling. This problem typically occurs when borders are placed too low on the wall. The resulting effect makes the room feel shorter and smaller.
Bottom Line
In order to find the right height for your border, take a section and temporarily afix it to the wall in each position. Step back and see which one looks the best. When in doubt, always place a border at the top of the wall to make the room look larger.
