  • Whats your source for this?
  • Hmm, last time I checked, ALL US citizens had the right of free speech - not just the ones that believe the same things, God-wise. I think they should start acting more Christ-like lest they become even more hypocritical.
  • A billboard vs. thousands years of varying religious persecution. Imagine what they'll be saying when it's an even match.
  • I haven't seen any reports about Florida, but Hannity went insane about the advertisements in the NY subway. He even went so far as to make the ludicrous claim that people would be up in arms about god advertisements in the subway (as if they aren't all over). Look, I have to see god billboards all over the place. Some tell me in 4 foot letters that I'm going to hell if I don't repent. I don't know where Christians got the idea that they had a monopoly on billboards about god (existence or non). They need to deal. In the meantime, I will chuckle at their antics and outrage. Ok, I found a reference to the Florida billboard http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov/02/021442/atheist-group-takes-message-lakeland-billboard/news-breaking/
  • It is sad,but radicals seem to think, God is on vacation,or is unable to take care of things. It's hypocritical indeed.
  • Those christians should shut the f*ck up, there's no mob of atheists at their churches when they post signs saying homosexuals and islam are of the devil.
  • Free Speach for ALL!!
  • I see nothing wrong with it. There are plenty of christian billboards. I have even seen a series of billboards with messages from God as if he wrote them. These seem sacrilegious to me.
  • The constitution of the United States explicity defends freedom of speech. That means that people can express their opinions. How fortunate you are to live in America.
  • They are all shook up because they have no real faith. Their faith is hollow.. like as if someone stole an empty cookie jar but then they are trying to accuse the thief of stealing the non-existent cookies.
  • First of all, it probably would have been a good idea for you to have posted a link to a photo of the billboard so that everyone could see to what you are referring. Without such a thing, I would have been very reluctant to comment on it myself. However, someone else posted a link in a comment. Let me now post it here (http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/nov/02/021442/atheist-group-takes-message-lakeland-billboard/news-breaking/) so that everyone can see it. That written, being a religious person myself, I don't see anything wrong it. I do recognize that there are people who do not believe in God and they have the same right to association as those of us who are religions do. Furthermore, the billboard makes no derogatory statement aimed at those of us who do believe in God. So, to those that are up in arms over this billboard, I say, "Get a life. Stop getting upset over people promoting their beliefs and start promoting your own instead."
  • Some people are so ignorant. I am athiest, but of course, in some Christians mind, that makes me "weird" or something. What's their problem? Why can't they put another billboard up somewhere promoting their religion? If there was a billboard put up about Christianity there wouldn't be a problem.
  • They are being hypocrites. Christian billboards are everywhere. The right to free speech doesn't only apply to religious groups.
  • Let 'em put up anything they want!!!! If the Christians don't like it then they should forgive them.
  • These people are the christians who like to scream persecution at every chance they get. Someone else has an opinion? They MUST be persecuting US!!! I heard of a similar case. There was a billboard saying "Don't believe in God? You aren't alone", and the web address of an atheist/agnostic group in the area. Of course, letting atheists and agnostics talk to other atheists and agnostics MUST be persecution of christians!! People need to calm down. Christians have advertisements all over the place. How is it different if atheists, muslims, or hindus put up signs? They're all for free speech and human rights, as long as they are the only ones with free speech and human rights.

  • Christians can be very hypocritical and ignorant. the last time i checked this was America and others need to get over themselves I'm not atheist and i believe in god but Christians have enough stuff just let them be. many Christians don't practice what they preach. too many
  • Imagine my disgust as a British atheist being forced to walk past ancient churches on every street corner. I'm glad to say some have now become nightclubs.
  • I'm so sorry for them. Haven't they heard of the First Ammendment? Both parts. Free speech and separation of church and state. +5
  • I get very angry when people knock on my door to tell me about their fairy tales and give me their pamphlets but the glory of a society with a strong stance on free speech is that everyone has equal rights to share their information.
  • i think its complete bs, theres a sign around here by the highway that says abortion is murder,do they have the first clue what people that choose to abort their child go through, who the f**k are they to tell people they are murderers and make them feel worse than they already do when they dont know the reason behind their descision, i always said i wanna put up a sign saying all christians are idiots and see how long it takes before the cops come knocking at my door over the complaints.
  • As I have said before ... If Christianity cannot stand up under severe scrutiny, it deserves to fall. God does not need help!
  • I am a Christian, but I believe that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and I don't have a problem with the billboard. We live in a free country, and I'm tired of people trying to restrict our freedoms because they are offended by something. +5
  • I am your 24th answer and it seems that you are the only person on AB bothered by it. I don't see it attacking you or anybody else. Nobody else here has any problem with it whether they were atheist or theist.
  • I see nothing harmful or offensive about the billboard. It is neither condeming nor criticizing any religious group. I see no problem with any religious (or non-religious) group promoting their beliefs, as long as there is a seperation of church and state and the advertisment does not attack those who have different beliefs. There was similar controversy in Canada over bus ads. I've included the link. http://atheistbus.ca/2009/02/23/photos-of-the-atheist-bus-ads-from-toronto/
  • What are they so worried about? That fellow christians may decide to suddenly cross over to the dark side after seeing a billboard? Oh please! Hope they are ready for the masses to cross over, because in the end they actually promoted more attention to the sign than what it would of originally got. LMAO way to go!
  • Why would Christians be ticked?Have that not read their bible?Jesus said these things would happen.
  • people need to calm down. I am an atheist and I don't get upset when a religious commercial comes on the tv.
  • It does rather reinforce the image of America as being somewhat religiously fundamentalist & right wing.
  • That happened where I live also except it was on the city bus side billboards. We Christians complained so the City took them off and said they will no longer accept ANY Ads pertaining to Beliefs or Non beliefs.
  • Live and let live.
  • Well here in the UK every church has an enormous sign out the front with various posters declaring christian beliefs - most atheist who walk past simply ignore it! Whatever happened to freedom of speech? My reaction? Get over it - it is no big deal; just another billboard.....but thanks for giving it such wide publicity - we would have missed it and it isn't often the God Squad give us a giggle on AB ;0)
  • That they do not respect their neighbor? Why dont they ever let things go? I dont understand. You dont see atheists getting all fired up when walking pass a christan billboard. What does it mean when you get angry when another opinion is displayed..? That you cannot handle another truth but yours. Even in christianity people have different opions. Imagine you let yourself be bothered by everything others do. You would have no life. They should start paying attention to theirselves and leave others alone and this counts for everyone not only christians. Everyone is only paying attention and judging what others do. Apparently a lot of people are not ready yet to face themselves, so they keep facing others just to get pass themselves.
  • I can't understand why they think they have the copyright on religion. It is extremely immature and bigoted. Live and let live.
  • What doesn't piss Christians off.
