Now, only about three inches. But in my old house, they were six inches. The ceilings were ten feet. The rooms were large and airy. They don't build them like that anymore, unless you draw up the plans yourself and have them build it the way you want it. But you have to build it on your own land, not in an "addition", where standards do not allow for classic houses...the way houses were and should be.
