  • It's just another piece of paper, but it probably hints that the person cares about something. Our society has become very credentials-obsessed, so it's not an unwise thing to get.
  • I do respect it. It means they were fascinated and passionate enough about something to follow through with it in that way. But that isn't to say that someone who DIDN'T do it can't be just as passionate and fascinated.
  • I respect anyone who can sit thru that shit all day long and get a degree in something..Viva the education system....LOLs..
  • I have a DMA. I remain thoroughly unimpressed with myself.
  • I think it is just a piece of paper, but respect comes with it
  • Sure I respect them. I am finishing my masters right now and I know the dedication and hard work it involves. I respect anybody who loves educating themselves and wants to better themselves - whether that is done through postgraduate education or not. Institutionalised education is not the be all and end all.
  • Respect? No, not really. However, I do recognize the person's ability to see a project from beginning to end
  • It's a step ladder if they realize that the degree was able to show them that they can keep learning.
  • I respect them when they go on to use what they learned in a relevant environment - if someone with a law degree goes on to practise law - respect. However, when they use that same degree to get on the corporate ladder a few rungs higher up the pay scale just because they have a(ny) degree I find it insulting to those who have worked in the industry and now have to train them. Example; I once worked in a bank with a girl with a degree in knitting and textiles - the only relevance I can see is if we sat her in the back office to knit the cheque book covers! I have no respect for this person as they spent several years studying something only to throw it away at the first chance.
  • I respect that they have accomplished that, as a person, I don't know, I respect people for who they are not what they have.
