Since i quit eating sugary stuff, I experiment with all kind of spices and veggies on my rye or whole wheat bread I bake myself. I am not used to eat cornbread as a born German but I can imagine that raw onion slices taste good on those or Garlic Salt. Just go to your spice board first and try things out. Have fun.
