  • Yes, the modern stream lined look with dark woods is still very in! If you look at any of the home and garden like chanels you see it is everywhere! Ahhh!!!! (Not my cup of tea but to each their own)
  • Yes...and NO...(clear as mud?) In a sense of "cutting edge" design, I think this style will always make some sort of appearance. How the style is used and to what degree seems to be the Hallmark of design elements. Currently...the over-carved type of Oriental design is only going to be found (cutting edge design) in a house that is strongly influenced by the financial clout to carry it off. It might be the entire house, or regulated to a specific ROOM in the house. If you mean the high gloss black lacquer with some painted motif...look for a highly modern house design...a lot of glass and additional gloss fixtures throughout. For Chinese or Oriental themed black wood (minimal gloss or carving) clean lined style I think if you plan to either limit it to a room, or carry the concept throughout in a easy flow...Feng Shui sort of way...you can create a harmonious, uncluttered, personal look. If this is what you are looking for think MINIMAL "STUFF." You use your colors, plants and art pieces as part of the entire flow and statement. You can also play with the hard-edged of most designs by adding one or two overstuffed, comfortable pieces for contrast. What ever your choices...must please YOU first and most of all!
