An apartment. It's more energy-efficient (saves money), cozier, and in a convenient location. Also, it's environmentally friendly if you do it right. Heat that escapes my apartment helps heat the person living above me. Heat that escapes a house just gets wasted.

I spent a few months living in a cedar bark lodge I built when I was logging in the back country several years back. It is the sort of home we lived in pre-contact. It was nice and comfy and dry during summer storms and bears didn't seem to bother it either. I left it standing when I finished up the logging season. I returned to check it out a year or so later and somebody had burned it down. Probably the USFS. 2/1/23
