I knew of one Bassett Hound that was 18 years old when his back finally gave out and his owners had to put him to sleep. Had it not been for his bad back, he might have lived another year, but I doubt much more. He truly was a big dog and for his age it was just amazing to see him get up and go outside every morning to potty. During the day his owners put down newspapers for him....he was just too exhausted to go out a second time every day!
