Radio-controlled clocks were marketed from the late 1980s, and gained popularity slowly as prices fell. A radio time signal is broadcast from accurate atomic clocks, setting the radio-controlled clocks to time every few hours. Sounds to me like you don't have an atomic clock close enough to reach your clock. Do you live in a small town?
