  • Some people believed it was true, and I think there was a group of people that actually went searching for the Arc, I think it was onthe discovery channel
  • Like the Bible it's just a kid's tale. There are mentions of floods on ancient scripts, but the "put two of every kind" gig is scientifically impossible.
  • that tale of mass-murder is - surprisingly - not just for children. it's one that has been believed by many, in the form of Noah's Ark and also some other versions that predate the Noah story.
  • Yes, Cazhead, many people still believe that it is literally true. Most Evangelical Christians do, in fact. They believe that the Bible is 100% literally true. Personally, I think that it is a metaphor used to illustrate a point. It is derivative of older versions from other cultures (Babylonians, Sumerians, Assyrians, etc). However, some science indicates that a valley may have flooded at the end of the last ice age when the Mediterranian filled with water from the melting ice. Actual remains of a village were found under the Dead Sea. (I cannot remember the documentary, but the Oceanographer is the same one who discovered the Titanic wreck in 1984.) This event may have been the catalyst for a story about a great flood and an underlying explanation for it.
  • It is supposed to be a true story. A lot of people don't believe it because they think the entire world was flooded. Some research has been done and it was found that in that region around the time when this was to have taken place there was a great flood that affected that area. So it is possible for it to have happened if you look at it in terms of the region where Noah lived and not the entire world as we know it.
  • It occurs in the Hebrew scriptures and they were not meant as a children's story; they were meant to be a record of their deity's interaction with humankind as well as a collection of laws, poems, inspirational writings, etc.
  • It was a true story. The Bible is TRUTH.
  • Sorry, must speak up here on this one people. This is too important to let pass. Noah's Ark is an important lesson for all people, young and old. It is a true story. If you do not believe in the importance of Noah’s ark, then you must believe that Jesus was a fraud. I repeat, If you do not believe in the importance of Noah’s ark, then you must believe that Jesus was a fraud. Got that? Here is why. Noah’s day prefigured our day. How do we know this? Well, Jesus foretold a similar time of violence, lawlessness, and lovelessness as part of “the sign” that we stand at the brink of a “great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again.” He also said: “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, . . . only the Father.” Then he added: “Just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.”—Matthew 24:3-21, 36-39. Yes, “they took no note.” But you do not have to be like them. You can escape when the Lord Jesus executes God’s vengeance by everlastingly destroying “those who do not know God and those who do not obey the good news about our Lord Jesus.” (2 Thessalonians 1:7, 8) Remember, Noah was a real person. In the Scriptures, Noah appears in two genealogies of the nation of Israel, the second culminating in Jesus Christ. (1 Chronicles 1:4; Luke 3:36) Ezra and Luke, the compilers of these genealogies, were both skilled historians and must have believed that Noah was a real person. Notice Jesus’ reference to the Deluge, recorded at Luke 17:26, 27: “Just as it occurred in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of man: they were eating, they were drinking, men were marrying, women were being given in marriage, until that day when Noah entered into the ark, and the flood arrived and destroyed them all.” Jesus Christ was an eyewitness of the events he described, having existed in heaven prior to his life on earth. (John 8:58) If the Deluge were merely a fable, then either Jesus was implying that his future presence was make-believe or he was speaking an untruth. Neither conclusion is compatible with the rest of the Scriptures. (1 Peter 2:22; 2 Peter 3:3-7) Therefore, Jesus Christ, as a result of personal observation, believed the Bible account of the global Flood to be authentic history. For true Christians, this is without doubt the most conclusive evidence that the Flood of Noah’s day was fact, not fable What some people here call ”mass murder” on the part of God is what is also known as judgment. He is the Creator, He makes the rules. That is the way that it works, plain and simple. I know, stop the world I want to get off right? Do you like mankind’s way? Darfur burns and all of the brave souls look the other way? God has to act, and we have been warned. That is what Jesus was saying. God has acted before, and he will act again. Jesus made this clear in his ministry. Source: Scriptures cited. Please look them up in your own Bible.
  • The reason anyone would think of it as a children's story is that you've got this picture of a cute little boat with a couple giraffes sticking out. In reality, the Ark was so large that if two giraffes were standing on top of it they'd look like a radio aerial. The Ark was enormous, with the capacity of a five-and-a-half-mile freight train, and was constructed with three decks, each probably subdivided into thirds with gravity feeds for their food and another one to dispose of the manure, with ventilation and--quite possibly--electrically-run motors. (There are plenty of other lost arts shown in the museums of the world; just google "out of place artificats." I myself saw something in Peru, pre-Inca, that looked like a transmission gear.)
  • I don't have any facts to offer, but isn't believing the Bible supposed to be about faith...faith is believing in the unseen. Does it matter that you can not see an arc in a museum? Some artifacts are destroyed throughout history... and is God not capeable of doing anything? If you don't believe in God, then I guess this would be a story for children. But if you believe in God then all of his word is true- if it isn't, then you don't believe in him, you just believe he's out there somewhere.
  • I think he was an idiot for letting the 2 flees on board.
  • I believe it to be a true story
  • Noa's Ark is in fact a true story and you can still find the ark on the top of Mount Ararat on this day!
  • If one believes the stories in the Bible then it was written as a true story. The Ark was said to have been afloat with Noah and his wife, their sons, their wives and the animals while it rained for 40 days and 40 nights straight without stopping. No one knows how long it was supposed to be before the waters receeded and the Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat in modern day Turkey. In the last few years, scientist and the US miltary have documented satellite images of a large boat-like object high on the mountain but no one can get to it in the steep ice flow due to fierce winds and severe storms most of the year. In 1908 a Russian military expedition climbing Ararat was said to have stumbled on a great boat broken open with several levels or stories with animal stalls that still had hay and grass but no one was able to produce anything to document it from that expedition.
  • It is in the bible.
  • If it's literal truth and Noah's family were the only survivors on the entire earth then does that mean that Noah had a multi-ethnic family? Or did human characteristics like skin color, hair texture, and the shape of people's eyes come about in some other way?
  • There is a lot of interpretation in religion, don't let someone tell you how to interpret a story without giving evidence.
  • Don't want to dispell anyone's religious beliefs but, do you know how much food would be required. How you collecting the animals, building an Ark and gathering the food. Just think how much food it would take to feed 2 Lions and 2 elephants for 40 days.
  • I believe it is intended to be taken as a true story and has worthwhile interpretation still in this age.
  • well i dont belive in any religins so yeah just a kid story to me but the answer will be different with diff people
  • Ark, correctly, arc is a mathematical concept, ark is a vessel. Concur with those who see that the Mythology of the pre-Hebrew/Jewish people was a way of somehow trying to explain that which is beyond our senses AND the Genesis version was guided by God's holy spirit who taught the Truth of the story contained in the story. THE MEDIUM IS NOT THE MESSAGE, THE MESSAGE IS IN THE MEDIUM. One humorous question I ask as a teacher and professor of the Humanities is: HOW could Noah be able to discern the gender of all the animals and birds to GET ONE OF EACH, imagine grapping a "tiger by the tail" to "see" or find a flea's penis AND then get them all to follow him and NOT KILL EACH OTHER FOR FOOD which is "what comes naturally," The Middle East did not have all the world's animals and birds, so how come they "escaped"? The Man had ONLY forty days to build the boat, get them ready and load up NOT TO mention food for that HUGE ZOO! Use common sense folks.
  • it is meant to be true
  • The story of Noah is from the old Testament. Jesus himself had access to it. And because Jesus was in existence long before he was sent to earth by his Father, Jehovah God, Jesus had full knowledge of the whole of earth's history from its creation. [Proverbs 8; 22-31] (Matthew 24:36-39) “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. 38 For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; 39 and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.
  • The Hebrews are like rabid record-keepers, so I would have to say its definitely MEANT to be a true story. What you believe is up to you, of course, but personally I believe it is true, and trust God to know the details, since what has been passed down is convincing but just 'a tad' sketchy and confusing. Of course, if you believe in a God who can create whole worlds and solar systems just by speaking, what's so hard about believing He can keep a few people and a bunch of animals safe during a world-wide water catastrophe? Not much that I can see. And I've seen enough every-day miracles in my life that I believe in that God.
  • The whole Genesis Book is full of un-scientific 'facts' but believers only have to be concerned about the Spiritual-Religious message and Truth. The moon is not a 'little light that shines by day, photo-synthesis is needed for plans to grow, so the Sun could not have been created after things grew. There are two human creation stories, one with the rib from Adam for Eve, the other omits that, and just says humans were created M and F in God's image and likeness! The Earth is not on stilts/ pillars with water above anbd below it, and rain comes when the "floodgates "are open- watch your local TV Weather news to see how rain, snow and wind come from! The list goes on. Religious people are God's worst enemies in many ways when they look for Science and Geography and other data in texts written long before poeple knew that the Earth revolves around the Sun- and is a planet in a huge Universe. See the row caused when Galileo Galileii contradicted the "Bible" (, he was right, but so-called Christians are doing the same dumb stuff today with all the proven, measured evidence stacked up agaist them, not anti-religious scientific theory! Scientists stick with science, religious people stick with their Truth and none should cross over to the other's territory but it happens which is why we have these idiotic rows about teaching Genesis as equally valid alongside Science in textbooks in public schools on matters of Science about which Genesis knows nothing.
  • Weather or not you believe that the story is true or not, it is like many stories in the Bible that we aren't supposed to worry to much about weather it happened or not, but what we can get out of it. It would be wonderful if one could read it and get that God was going to reconcile with God's people in other ways than drowning them (thank goodness).
  • it's a true story. It is believed to have been found! Try this site: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=2133311&page=1
  • noah's ark is a true story, it is the first armaggedon that God made. only 8 people left and the animals that noah collected.
  • Its true, how do you think all these animals got here
  • h0ax.Noah added 2 animals of the same race in one boat?! That boat should be huge and it would be still rotting and not disappear like that.
  • Prose, Parable and Prologue. To understand the bible you need to arm yourself with an understanding of these three. In the case of Noah and the Ark you also need to add that in the time of the telling the "whole world" stretched from Low northern Eurasia down to mid central Africa. That was the known "whole world". There is agreement that catastrophic floods were recorded. Other places on earth have records of such. What science clearly points out is that there is not enough water tied up in the poles, in the ground and in the air to cover the whole earth even over the most modest of mountains. Unfortunately the Story of Noah is not important for the ark, instead it is more important for the story that was rejected in the Book of Enoch which should be in the bible for there we find the reason for the tale of Noah, the reason why God decided to flood the whole earth. Again there is no doubt there was a flood, there is no evidence but sufficient reason to believe that a man with a boat full of animals did in fact survive a terrible regional flood and from there the story grew. The bible is NOT written by God. It is written by men inspired by God. This doesn't mean they got the details right. There are significant moral tales in the story of Noah which are still applicable to man today. So we can not toss out the baby with the bath water by saying "the story is just a story". Again Parable and prose plays a big roll in understanding the bible. Noah's Flood is a good contender as Parable that has an important roll to play, not as history but as a moral lesson.
  • Folklore written way too long ago to possibly know (or care) about.
  • It's a true story based on a moral of: obidience and loyalty to god and preservance.
  • If one believes it, it is intended for everyone I suppose, as fact. If one doesn't believe it, children are the only ones who do...until they get old enough to question it.
  • it is a true story. the bible don't lie.
  • true story
  • true story
  • It was probably a lot more convincing back in the day. Now it just seems silly, but maybe you can get some value out of a metaphorical interpretation.
  • POssible true event, probably didn't quite happened as written, I think primitive people recollected about something too advanced to be described in any other words.
  • Noahs arc is true if you study for your self to show yourself approved as the Wonderful Holy Bible says to do you would see , it talks about Noahs life after the flood. God is real and he loves us all we have to study his word so we can get to know him. I also believe his return is soon because of all the stuff going on in the world today. So i pray we all get ready.
  • Oops. I meant to put this as a comment, not an answer. :/
  • I believe it is a true story and I think it is mis-inturpreted (spelling). You have to remeber that man thought the world was flat until the 1400s. so the term Global could have meant that region as far as the eye can see....It had to be a HUGE boat though if you think about it....4 times the size of the Titanic to be able to carry 2 types of every animal and all that food for them.....so it is easy to see why people are doubtful of the story...;)
  • If it's a true story, the facts just don't fit. 'Every' animal or creature? How on earth can this be done, when there are about 12 million kinds of beetle alone? (and please don't say as a counter arguement that they evolved since the time of Noah - most species, insect or otherwise, can be placed to a pre human time frame). What about bugs, mites and other parasites too small to be seen? What about geography and the difficulty of ancient travel? How would Noah get hold of kangaroos for example? Was Australia joined to Asia when Noah was building? Or is plate tecktonics rubbish? I've never heard a rational explanation for this, and I don't expect to. What about the difficulty of building a structure in wood which is big enough to hold all these creatures? Then there's gathering and storing all that food. Ancient technology could be impressive, but not that impressive. Sorry, it just doesn't work. Flood geology in support of the Noah story (a worldwide flood) is not accepted by the vast majority of geologists, both Christian and non-Christian. At one time workers in Biblical archaeology were willing to argue for a historical worldwide flood, but that view has been discredited and is no longer current. One of the latest flood theories is the Ryan-Pitman Theory, which argues for a catastrophic deluge about 5600 BC from the Mediterranean Sea into the Black Sea. Then there's the evidence for a release of massive amounts of glacial meltwater across the northern USA around 10,000 years BC. Excavations in Iraq have shown evidence of a flood at Shuruppak about 4,900 - 4,750 BC. Given the widespread nature of human habitation for the last 20,000 years or so, and the violence of the natural world around us, is it surprising that almost every culture has a flood story? And given these people's lack of knowledge and the fairly simple world in which they lived, it's reasonable to assume most would have no difficulty in accepting a mythology of this type. I wouldn't say it's meant for children either, as I've seen it produce terror in Sunday School. I'm afraid it's nothing more than another example of the 'do as you're told or else' teachings used so widely in the past to try to control the behaviour of the population. In essence there's nothing wrong with that, but I'd like to think the advance of scientific knowledge might make us question the absolute accuracy of this sort of thing just a little bit.
  • Sorry to differ with most people. The story is just that, a story. It is designed to teach a moral.
  • The Bible don't lie because it's God's word not ours, he had us write it. Yeah :)
  • Just found this wonderful article on CBN.com. You can disagree with it if you like, but it is an interesting insight into possibilities: What did Noah's Ark Look Like? By Craig von Buseck CBN.com Ministries Director CBN.com – This is what the Bible says about the Ark that God commanded Noah to build: “Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. Make the boat 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Leave an 18-inch opening below the roof all the way around the boat. Put the door on the side, and build three decks inside the boat—lower, middle, and upper. “Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat… (Genesis 6:14-18 NLT) The Bible gives the dimensions of the Ark—450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high, assuming a cubit of 18". We also know that the Ark had three decks. So the overall volume of the Ark was: 450 x 75 x 45 = 1.52 x 106 ft.3 It is believed that Noah's Ark was the largest sea-going vessel ever built until the late nineteenth century when giant metal ocean liners were first constructed. Its length to width ratio of six to one gave the Ark the needed stability to survive on the high seas. Modern shipbuilders say it would have been almost impossible to capsize. The early Church father Origen (c. 182-251), responded to a critic who doubted that the Ark could contain all the animals in the world. Origen responded that Moses, who was the author of Genesis, had been brought up in Egypt and would therefore have used the larger Egyptian cubit. He also fixed the shape of the Ark as a truncated pyramid, rectangular rather than square at its base, and tapering to a square peak one cubit on a side. It was not until the 12th century that it came to be thought of as a rectangular box with a sloping roof. God designed the Ark to be strong and to stay afloat. It probably resembled a floating barn. The total available floor space on the ark would have been over 100,000 square feet, which would be more floor space than in 20 modern basketball courts. The cubic volume would have been 1,518,000 cubic feet [462,686.4 cubic meters] -- equal to the capacity of 569 modern railroad cars. So, how could they fit all those animals on the Ark? According to World Book Encyclopedia, "So far scientists have named and classified more than 1 1/2 million animals. Over half of these are types of insects and other species are discovered each year. Scientists believe there may be from 2 million to as many as 50 million kinds of animals alive today." However, the vast majority of these are capable of surviving in water and would not have needed to be brought aboard the ark. In their book, The Genesis Flood, Doctors John C. Whitcomb and Henry Madison Morris say that only 35,000 individual animals needed to go on the ark. John Woodmorappe, the author of Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study, believes that an even smaller number of animals would have been transported upon the ark. Woodmorappe explains that the word "specie" is not equivalent to the "created kinds" of the Genesis account, so as few as 2,000 animals may have been required on the ark. ChristianAnswers.net explains that as many as 50,000 animals (including creatures that may now be extinct) could have fit on board the ark. These would not have needed to be the largest or even adult specimens. They point out that there are really only a few very large animals, such as the dinosaur or the elephant, and these could be represented by young ones. "Assuming the average animal to be about the size of a sheep and using a railroad car for comparison, we note that the average double-deck stock car can accommodate 240 sheep. Thus, three trains hauling 69 cars each would have ample space to carry the 50,000 animals, filling only 37percent of the ark. This would leave an additional 361 cars or enough to make 5 trains of 72 cars each to carry all of the food and baggage plus Noah's family of eight people." In other words, Noah's Ark had plenty of space to fit the animals, Noah's family, and all the provisions needed for a year-long journey.
  • look buddy its in Quran and let me tell you one thing every thing mentioned in Quran is true and the reason for putting in the matter in this holy book was that we weak ppl get some idea that wat Allah can do when He comes to anger . May Allah Subhan-o-Tallah keeps every one of us under his blessings Ameen
  • You seem to have 3 questions: 1 - is it actually true? 2 - is it proveable? 3 - can anyone convince you? Yes to the first 2. Yes it was on the news, but I was a kid then, in the 70s. Ararat is a no fly zone, like Jebel El Lawz, in Arabia, the real Mt. Sinai. (there is a book on that as well, 'Search for the Real Mountain of God', I believe. Has color photos.) As a rational person, if you were an Arab Nation, how would you like infidel Christians and American scientists coming into your land, proving THEIR religious history was true? And you are a good follower of Mohammed, God's true prophet? How long till you stopped them? "Ancient Secrets of the Bible" has some video on it, and so did the TV show "In Search Of". then there is "the Search for Noah's Ark" by either the Discovery Channel or History Channel. I would think scholarly research has been put forward about support or argument against its validity. Have you gone to a college library, or major city one, and asked the research librarian for help? A reference librarian probably won't be able to. You want a professional library resource digger. E-journals will have abstracts and articles. Some consumer publications are bound to have picked up on the "scholarly" work and published articles over the years too. But if, from the tone of some of the remarks on the string, you are pre-decided that Noah's Ark is fake - then nothing will convince you. Are you sure you aren't trying to set an "impossible task" for others, to support your own position that God isn't someone you can trust? Based on your demands for "hard evidence" on one Bible story, it then becomes everyone else's task to "prove" the truth to you, and it's our fault if our evidence isn't what you wanted. Like Scully says : the facts are out there. Can you be flexible enough to look at both sides of the evidence to make a balanced case?
  • It is true and God lead the creatures onto the Ark.
  • i think its a true story
  • Its a lesson for us all...to show that Jehovah Gods patience IS LIMITED...
  • God can run out of patience even when it was he who gave us free will - but it's a nice story and kids love it!
