  • You may have a loose vacuum line that controls the actuators that change the position of the contol flaps. It sounds like you have both heat and AC at the same time. My Asto van does something like this, when it looses vacuum all I can get is the defrost.
  • I agree with the fist answer. The heater is running along with the A/C. The heater control valve is not working. The controls are broken; perhaps as simple as a loose vaccuum hose. If you need a mechanic but can't afford it, I have fixed this problem by clamping/pinching off the inlet hose to the heater core, or by disconnecting the inlet and outlet heater core lines and connecting them together with tubing and hose clamps, taking the heater core out of the circuit. Of couse, this means you now have no heater. This is a cheap fix for a leaking heater core too.
